The secret of religion lies not in theories but in practice. To be good and to do good – that is the whole of religion.

For Study Circles

Every centre working on the lines of the Mahamandal should have a study circle. It may meet once a week. Usually the programme starts with the Mahamandal anthem and 'Swadesh-mantra’ by Swami Vivekananda. The idea behind the study circle is to acquaint all who desire to work for the Mahamandal with the thoughts of Swami Vivekananda and also the ideas and methods of the Mahamandal through detailed discussions. For running a study circle we should keep in mind that mechanically reading some portions from some books will not serve the purpose. What is necessary is to absorb the spirit and read out the selected passage with all sincerity, so that the participants are able to catch the right spirit. Those who attend the study circles must get inspired to dedicate their life for the good of the country. It is better to select portions to be taken up at least a week ahead, so that all participants should go through them beforehand.’

All should also have some acquaintance with the life of Swamiji. Studying the current and old issues of Vivek-Jivan will also be helpful. Gradually all the publications of the Mahamandal should be studied individually and at the study circle.

All such publications as 'Aims and Activities', 'The Idea and the Method', 'A New Youth Movement', 'The problem of the Youth :Its Solution', 'How to Build Character', 'Why and How of Mental Concentration', 'Solving Problems: The Vivekananda way', 'A Plan for Action', and if possible, 'Swami Vivekananda and the World of Youth', may be taken up for the purpose. Playing cassettes on the Aims will be very useful.

This will acquaint members sufficiently with the principal ideas of Swami Vivekananda. For his own words, the following compilations of sayings of Swami Vivekananda may also be taken up :'The Message of Vivekananda', 'Vivekananda: His call to the Nation', 'Swami Vivekananda on India and Her Problems', 'Caste, Culture and Socialism', 'Rebuild India', 'To the Youth of India' and 'Teachings of Swami Vivekananda'. It is better not to take up Swamiji's bigger volumes in the study circle, as it may be difficult for many to follow them properly. Afterwards selected portions from 'Lectures from Colombo to Almora' and 'Letters' may also be studied. Books once finished may be taken up afterwards for recapitulation, so that the contents of the prescribed books at least are thoroughly mastered.
Audio cassettes of the Mahamandal may also be utilized to learn the anthem and prayer songs and to understand the ideas of the Mahamandal.

We want to lead mankind to the place where there is neither the Vedas, nor the Bible, nor the Koran; yet this has to be done by harmonizing the Vedas, the Bible, and the Koran. Mankind ought to be tought that religions are but the varied expressions of THE RELIGION, which is Oneness, so that each may choose the path that suits him best.

My master used to say that these names, as Hindu, Christian, etc. stand as great bars to all brotherly feelings between man and man. We must try to break them down first.
